Rental of LED Screens and common questions to keep in mind

In Ditec Comunicaciones we are experts in LED technology, we carry out events where both indoor and outdoor screens are required.

Our specialty for the type of events that we usually do are indoor screens, which are used to do something different than outdoor ones that can be used for concerts, racing circuits or advertisements on the highways just to say a few of them.

In our case, to carry out corporate events, product presentations, conventions or fair stands, we use to work with high quality definition because distance between people and screen is much less than those in outdoor conditions.

Which means you need more quality to reproduce content, logos, or live cameras with highest quality.

The technology applied in LED screens take us to clarify some concepts about elementary and essential technology issues when planning an installation, which it is recommended to keep in mind and that is why we need to understand what´s the final  purpose for the screen.

We go through a series of basic questions with the aim of achieving the understanding of all the actors present in the environment. These are some of the issues to consider:

How is a LED screen composed?

The screens are assembled of  square blocks (tiles) normally of 0.5 x 0.5 m that are integrated with others by an anchoring system that allows to hold and form a flat and firm projection surface, without fissures and with the ability to achieve a uniform image by configuring its integrated electronics:

How big can the screen be?

The fact of being able to assemble it in blocks allows us to create a variable projection surface in shape and size, with different geometries (even curves), depending on the location of the anchoring elements of the blocks and the environment as a reference.

It will normally have rectangular or square shapes all but it can be done in some other way. Considering that the video format currently being worked on is of an aspect ratio of 16:9, LED screens are usually mounted with sizes that can vary from 2 to 18 meters or more in with; always taking into account the proportion of the format when determining the height of the screen.

What definition quality does an LED screen have?

Currently our screens allow us to display content in HD (High Definition) and Full HD. In the case of LED screens there is an important factor to keep in mind that is the so-called Pitch.

This parameter gives an account of the distance between each point of LED light present in each block (tile), being the interactive conjunction of all the points of light, which form the totality of the video image displayed; that means that all the points of light form the total image, so quality of definition will be determined by the distance between point to point (Pitch).

Therefore depending on the needs of the environment (indoor or outdoor) and projection distances we can offer 1.9, 2.9 or 3.9 mm pitch screens for indoor.

The definition parameters correspond to a variable value determined by the proportionality of the size of the screen, considering each block (tile) has 128 × 128 pixels, the resolution results from the calculation directly proportional to the desired screen size.

Where and how can an LED screen be installed?

There are endless technical possibilities in this regard but we are going to reduce them to the most common ones. The union of blocks that make up the screen can rest on a flat and firm surface, capable of supporting the weight that a structure of these characteristics supposes.

In our particular case, we recommend doing it on a platform of metal structure seated on the ground serving as insulation and ensuring the stability of it. This is reinforced by subsequent metal structures so that it does not yield forward or backward.

As we make the highest screen, it is needed to make structures in chair’s shape or ladder to ensure proper support.

Another possibility of common installation is through special anchors, hanging the screen from the roof or a metal structure of truss so that the screen is hanging (flying in the air) if required by the needs of the project.

Normally it can be done in auditoriums or fairs where the anchoring points of the truss structure (rigging points) already exist.

Advantages and aspects to consider:

Our LED screens can display different types of shapes and sizes thanks to its variable modular assembly capacity, this gives it a unique versatility if is it considered as a scenography alternative, so that we can dispense with the scenery if we put a screen wide enough in some cases (it needs to be carful with the aspect ratio).

It also provides optimal use of back space since it does not need as much distance behind as the projection, so in smaller spaces can be fit more attendees.  Besides, its luminosity and size allows a view in excellent conditions from considerable distances.

Space and environment are two key conditions when considering the installation of the screen since its dimensions could determine that the decision to install this type of screen may not be appropriate; as in the case that the distance of projection is so short that it hinders the visualization of the video by excessive proximity of the spectator to the screen itself.

The presence of a ceiling that is too low could be a negative factor when choosing an LED projection option.

Another factor to consider is the high degree of brightness emitted by the screen in full operation.

The shining that this generates gives an added value to the general setting and makes it necessary to consider the needs of lighting especially if one takes into account the proximity of the viewer with respect to the screen.
